My sweet spot: complexity, specialization and challenging stakeholders

While I have worked across a wide range of sectors and organizations of all sizes, there are three attributes that link the works I am most proud of:

  1. They touch complex systems, often navigating conflicting values, severe constraints (technological, operational, regulatory, etc.), and challenging indeterminacy

  2. Their success was contingent on specialized knowledge, demanding rapid development of interactional expertise and familiarity with jargon, processes, and other attributes of often niche areas

  3. They were delivered without the support of a strong design culture and often in the face of a web of stakeholders with conflicting goals and even antagonism towards design

I thrive in these environments and am able to sense-make and leverage analogues from an incredibly diverse range of industries and contexts to bring creative and robust designs to challenging problems.
